The COC’s new production sets this story of passion and sacrifice in glittering Paris during the Second Empire, evoking the social realities, rhythms, and debauchery of a rapidly changing world. Opera Club members will enjoy an exclusive backstage toast on stage with cast members post-performance.

Centre Stage: Ensemble Studio Competition Gala puts the spotlight on the opera stars of tomorrow in the second annual onstage competition and celebration featuring the acclaimed Canadian Opera Company orchestra, under Music Director Johannes Debus.

Opera Club members met at The National Club for a private cocktail reception and performance by Ensemble Studio tenor Andrew Haji and pianist Jennifer Szeto. The evening was hosted by COC Board of Directors member Peter Deeb.

Love conquers all. Especially reason. Figaro and Susanna’s wedding is jeopardized by the wandering eye of the Count, their employer. Intrigue and mistaken identities ensnare everyone in a web of erotic passions. Opera Club members will get the unique opportunity to watch members of the Canadian Opera Company’s 2015/2016 Ensemble Studio in their own performance of the mainstage production of The Marriage of Figaro. Members will also join the cast for a post-performance toast.

Love and war collide in Rossini’s epic drama. In his grand bel canto opera Maometto II, Rossini unleashes his full arsenal of vocal fireworks on the historical tale of the great Turkish Sultan, Maometto, and his quest to conquer the Holy Roman Empire. This working rehearsal will provide Opera Club members with an inside look at the final preparations before opening night.

Live free or die. Carmen. The name conjures myriad allusions: feral gypsy, sexual hedonist, fatalistic soul. This irresistible seductress enters into a love affair with a man who, in the thrall of consuming jealousy, attempts to tame her. Opera Club members are invited to join the cast for an exclusive post-performance cast party.
